Winnipeg production company Dirty T-Shirt Productions and RadX are pleased to announce the release of Riding North, a feature length documentary airing January 29, 2013 across Canada on RadX.
In Riding North, Winnipeg’s Steve Langston and a film crew embark on a one-month bike propelled journey from Whitehorse, Yukon to Yellowknife Northwest Territories. Along the way they encounter bike problems, wildlife, extreme weather conditions and giant flies that take huge bleeding chunks from their flesh. With hundreds of kilometers between services, food and water become scarce and road conditions deteriorate. They are left with no other choice but to put their heads down and grind it out inch by inch to Yellowknife.
“To say we were in over our heads would be a MASSIVE understatement,” Langston admits today with a laugh.
Shot by Ryan and Chris Mitchell over the month of June 2010, on a $0 budget, Riding North is truly a labour of love; a movie powered entirely by blood, sweat, and gears. “It was a crazy trip and we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into,” says Chris, who at the time was a completely inexperienced bike tourist.
“When I planned the trip and even as I was leaving out of Whitehorse, I had no idea how wild it would be,” says Langston, who had previously completed bike tours across Canada and down the West Coast from Vancouver to San Diego, among others. “I didn’t know that there was a 500 kilometer stretch of gravel between grocery stores, didn’t know about the herds of wild bison, aggressive bears and bugs that ripped flesh from your skin or the fact that we would have to pump water from creeks for over a week.”
The result of the boys’ adventure will be making its broadcast premier on RadX ( available on MTS & Shaw ) on January 29, 2013 at 9:00 ET.
